A Borderless Native Tribe with a Decentralized Barter & Trade Network, Arbitration System, Urgent Response Team and Mutual Aid Society.
“Robbers of the world, having by their universal plunder exhausted the land, they rifle the deep. If the enemy be rich, they are rapacious; if he be poor, they lust for dominion; neither the east nor the west has been able to satisfy them.
Alone among men they covet with equal eagerness poverty and riches.
To robbery, slaughter, plunder, they give the lying name of empire; they make a wasteland and call it peace (ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant).”
—Calgacus of the Caledonii, according to Tacitus, AD 83
Hundreds of years before the current era (about 300 BC) the Caledonii lived in the highlands of what is today Scotland. Our people built round houses which symbolized the equality amongst us, that there was no hierarchical elite, no imposed aristocracy in our culture. Today we have a stateless tribe.
Caledonian culture is very old. We have many traditions, stemming mostly from the pre-Christian Native European spiritual customs, and we come from many walks of life, levels of economic success, and places on Earth. After the battle with the Romans under Agricola, the proudest of us took ship and traveled.
Many Caledonians became nomads in those years. All through the Baltic and all along the Western shores of Europe, our clans moved and shaped our own destinies. We were joined by freedom-loving rebels from the Celts, Danes or Vikings, and other native tribes such as the Cheruskoi, Chatti, Hermunduri, Saxons, Heruli, & Frisians. Some of the nomads amongst us traveled across Asia and Africa in the centuries following Agricola. Some migrated amongst the islands of the Pacific. Others came to the New World as it is now called.
There are many stories of specific travels, enterprises, and activities which are being added to a compendium of our histories.
It is important to acknowledge that as a result of moving about, we are not all of one religious preference. Although our tribal culture & traditions hearken back to the “Old Ways” of the Nordic and Germanic archetypal gods and pre-Christian, Native European tribal spirituality, we do not require anyone accept the tenets of any particular religion, nor do we insist that anyone espouse any religion at all. Whether a person is atheist or religious, there is room for them in our tribe. We are all Caledonians.
We are committed most of all to the path of peace, to the zero aggression principle. We believe in defending ourselves and one another, but not in being aggressive, not initiating force. We are not pacifists nor passivist aggressives, we are defenders of our freedom and people.
